Warning, slightly rambling post follows.
Our FT match got changed into a CTF match at the last minute, which was a bit unexpected, but since we'd put it off twice already (once at our request, once cos QL was slow) I figured, what the hey. A few of us have been keen on playing some CTF too, so I went for it.
And we got steamrollered. Personally I hate Jap Castles and should have sat it out. We offered a bit more resistance on Courtyard, with Martin doing a decent job on def and Prime never giving up on off - (you've gotta stop winding up the oppo tho Prime. Cript had a few choice words about you afterwards and I stuck up for you (again). You're one of our best players, but I'll drop you from the competitive team if I get any more grief).
Props to Uchi for crossing the Atlantic to help out btw.
Aero are a good CTF clan, organised and individually skilled. It was our first CTF as a group ever so the result wasn't a big surprise, but it did make me think how a clan set up to promote casual FT and iFT is going to manage now it's got a hard core of a dozen or so players wanting to play 4v4s against other clans in other game types.
We've got to get a bit more organised before the game starts and that means :
1) Deciding who's playing well beforehand, rather than just taking the first 4 that join the server. How we do this I don't know. I want us to be competitive, but there's a danger of excluding most of the clan (including me ) if we just pick the best 4. Don't want to boost or bruise any egos, but I wouldn't get into an iFT game ahead of regurge, Vibeus, Kanzo, PrimeV or Cat. Add kry if it's iCTF and mojon or raz0rblade if it's FT.
Now I don't personally have a problem with that, but what do they rest of you think ? Maybe we need an A and a B team ? Some kind of set up that lets people get some competitive experience regardless of their skill ?
2) Get some team practice in. The 4 that are playing the match need to play together. Other Chills can provide the opposition.
3) Get a couple of warmup games in immediately before the game. Like 2, making sure we're not playing the first game of the night as a competitive one.
However we sort out 1) we ought to sort out some more internal 4v4 action in all gametypes. The Red vs Blue thread was started with this in mind. In the absence of any matches with other clans how does this sound :
Monday : CTF
Tuesday : iFT
Wednesday : FT
Thursday : TDM
Sunday : FFA fun
Clearly there's no requirement to turn up for every session, or one session every time. Just a way of settling what's on offer on any given evening. Please suggest gametypes and days to add or remove.
Please think about all this - it's all part of Chill's growing pains. It's a sign that we've all met people through Chill that we like and enjoy playing with. I'm looking for ideas and opinions people !
