I'm always rusty as feck after a layoff. The game feels too quick and my mouse feels too twitchy. Normally I just play for a couple of days and everything gets back into the groove eventually. This time I've decided to take advantage of this and muck about with some settings... Zoom : cg_fov 114 RG cg_zoomfov 30 LG cg_zoomfov 50 cg_zoomSensitivity 0.95 Mouse : sensitivity 3.1 cl_mouseAccelPower 2 cl_mouseAccelOffset 0 cl_mouseAccel 0.02 cl_mouseSensCap 5 in_mouseMode "win32(Raw)" in_mouse "2" I've got a Logitech G5 and use it on 800 dpi. Is it worth cranking up the dpi and reducing the sens even further to compensate ? I mucked about with these settings during tonight's iFT practice, ending up as they are now. I think I'm going to try to stick with these for a bit, tho I'm considering changing the accel offset, maybe to 3... Any comments on anything you think is odd would be welcome. And post your own settings too please

Too little acc with these settings, so I've upped it to 0.04. Getting the balance between nice low sens for good LG tracking, and being able to hit flick rails is the balancing act.

phoon.us/mouse/ Useful site to check your mouse settings. I use a fingertip grip and aim mostly with my wrist. cfg: dl.dropbox.com/u/26474412/QL/kanzo.cfg// Razer Abyssus 450 dpi 500 Hz sensitivity "3.6" // m_cpi "0" m_yaw "0.022" m_pitch "0.022" cl_mouseaccel "0" cl_mouseacceloffset "0" cl_mouseaccelpower "2" cl_mousesenscap "0" in_mouse "2" cg_fov "100" RG cg_zoomfov "50" LG cg_zoomfov "75" cg_zoomoutondeath "0" cg_zoomscaling "0" cg_zoomsensitivity "1" cg_zoomtoggle "0" I would say lower fov slightly, quote from ql forum "with low fov you'll hit as good as b4 but you will suddenly SEE how bad your aim is compared to a high fov where you can't SEE it.. " -T1E Do you zoom alot? Your zoomfov for rail and lg is quite low. The dpi is fine at 800 unless you play quake live at 2560x1600. Your cm/360 is 16.8 which for me personally is unplayable but its personal preference (dem0n = ~10 cm/360 afaik and strenx = ~52 cm/360). The ideal setting is that your sensitivity is low enough so you can track well with lg well but you can still do a quick 180. I also sometimes use accel when I don't feel so well since it requires less effort. sensitivity "3.2" cl_mouseaccel "0.07" I may change my accel settings slightly and switch to accel permanently because with accel I can hit shots I can't hit with my standard settings.

Mouse settings:
// ----------[MOUSE]---------- seta cl_mouseAccel "0.04" seta cl_mouseSensCap "3" seta sensitivity "1.7" seta in_mouse "2" seta m_filter "1" I know the accel settings are old, I had new ones but my harddrive melted. Luckily I had a moderately recent backup.
Insta zoom:
//BASIC ZOOM bind MOUSE6 "cg_zoomfov 40;cg_zoomtoggle 1;+zoom"
//SMALL ZOOM bind MOUSE2 "cg_zoomfov 75;cg_zoomtoggle 0;+zoom"
Allweap zoom:
//BASIC ZOOM seta cg_zoomtoggle "0" seta zoom "0" seta cg_zoomoutondeath "0"
seta zoomi1 "+zoom;set zoomi vstr zoomi2" seta zoomi2 "-zoom;set zoomi vstr zoomi1" seta zoomi "vstr zoomi1"
bind MOUSE6 "cg_zoomfov 40;vstr zoomi"
//SMALL ZOOM alias +smallzoom "+zoom" alias -smallzoom "-zoom;set zoomi vstr zoomi1;"
bind MOUSE2 "cg_zoomfov 75;+smallzoom"
All weapon binds except mg and rg have ;vstr zoomi2 in them = zooms out when switched to it. They are for the basic zoom, which is toggled, while small zoom works only when the button is pressed.
Other stuff:
seta cg_zoomSensitivity "0.9" seta r_mode "15" seta cg_fov "110"
Should probably set my fov a bit lower.
I like these settings, I can easily do 180 (cm/360 should be about 30.56?) and my mousepad is basic qck = 32 cm x 27 cm. I played years with huge sensitivities so it has been a bit hard to drop it. Have tried to use lower than my current one, but it just felt weird.

Really useful post kanzo. Thanks. I've been increasing my cm/360 since I started playing QL. I had a ridiculously high sens in Q1 and Q3, because I didn't know any better. I think I've pretty much reached my limit now since any lower sens is going to mean using more arm movement than 10 years of muscle memory is going to let me. I'll try dropping my fov though - I'd increased it when I started playing a lot of CTF, but I'm more aware generally these days so maybe I don't need the fisheye fov any more. I'll drop it to 105 tomorrow and leave it there for a week or so. The zoom fov is so narrow for CTF reasons again. Might increase it a bit, then set it by hand when needed on Distant Screams As for accel - 0.07 with no senscap seems pretty dramatic ? Glad to help swampy

0.07 at 450 dpi is same as 0.022 at 800 dpi
0.07 * [ (450 / 800) ^ 2 ] = 0.0221484375
